Ngāti Manu Kāinga Plan

Project Kāinga was a five-year research programme interested in how marae communities shape a future that builds community and environmental resilience in the face of climate change. Ngāti Manu was one of seven communities that were supported and empowered to develop tikanga-based, economic and community-relevant responses to climate change. It also supported communities to address cross-generational issues like food sovereignty, water quality, and energy security.

Project kainga helped to grow research within the community, and supported us to build connections on a global stage – including supporting NKOTA to present in Perth, Norway, and Oklahoma. More than this, the project reinforced the importance of the work that Ngāti Manu is doing and aspires to do with and for communities and Te Taiao.
